Esmeralda: 3D model Render 1 by ExiledChaos Esmeralda: 3D model Render 1 by ExiledChaos
<EDIT!> Download for eyeblisteringness...

Re-upload! Now much much bigger so you can see all my mistakes!! I didn't want to make a new deviation since the only thing that's changed is the size. I tried to match the angle and distance the best I could. Sorry if this is spam. =\ I will update the ones I have on here and then maybe make a few more, just a good front, back, and side.

One day, I will also make a SSS shader for her skin and fix some of the modeling with her holster and clothes, and work with the unwrapping, but that's another battle >>;

Thanks for humoring me looking xD

(and I promise other stuff soon too x3 )

</EDIT>

First render, sorry it's so small. I'm working on getting a high-res render, a better lighting rig, and maybe a SSS shader for the skin to look more like skin x3

I think I will do an additional close up of different body parts. xD.... the hair....

Made entirely in Maya, first character model EVERRR!! >8) It was difficult, but a really enjoyable process. And now that I know how to do it, I think I will try to build a few more models over the summer, for more practice ;)

The colors and textures are still meh I realize, but I'm looking into it.

Thanks for looking!

Yeah, xD
I like it though.
It reminds me of polished hair. Cx

Given that I know absolutely nothing about 3D rendering, this looks nice!
My only crit would be that her hair looks a little too shiny and smooth on top, like it's shaped out of glass or something. I feel like it could use more texture or at least a more matte finish, like the lower parts of her hair.

You inspired me to do the same for one of my characters. And I'm following the guide of a book.
but just as a question on advice, my character has crazy hair as well. How'd you go about doing that?

Aww thanks =) Good luck with it and I'd love to see it when you're done (or inbetween x3).

So basically what I did for the entire hair, if I can sum it up x3, was I had the head more or less finished, and I duplicated it, and enlarged it just alittle to lay on top of the head, then deleted away the faces so I would just have the hair line (and then messed with the vertexes to flow better and made the edge close to the head. Once that was situated, I extruded it out to give volume to the base hair. (I was alittle conflicted with this since I ended up having to go back and delete the inside after I was done, and you'd need to do that too if you were to unwrap, so I wasn't sure if this was the wisest way xD It did help me out a bit in the start, but just be aware of it). After that, I did sculpt geometry tool, Pull, and puffed out the sides and back alittle to match my picture better. Then (like the other stuff) delete half of it. After that, it was just a tedious as hell process of selecting a face, extruding it a few times (or putting a 2 or 3 extrude in the options) and moving the verts and edges around to make it look more organic and less like a big spike xD. After working mostly with the low back (I left top alone since I knew it would have a swept-over look, I mirrored geometry and teases some hairs on each side so it looked more random. Then I got to work on the top, same process, but more of a single direction and purpose.

For her side hair, the long flowy hair, much simpler, I just made a cone shape, shaped it to the way I wanted, the duplicated it a bunch, shift the angle, rotated, sized, etc, and bunch them together. Same with bangs. And pretty much, I would just fill in any area that looked like it needed it xD

I kinda wung it, went by the advice of my teacher to start, but made it up as I went. x3 So don't be afraid to experiment. I saved multiple copied and undid alot... and just have alot of patience :rofl: Let me know how it goes =D and if you have any other questions

it's going...oh lawd is it going.
I will have pictures, don't worry. I'm just embarrassed of him at the moment. started the head sculpting and gonna go with a mix of advice. It's just scary cause I gave him a lion's mane.
If you want to see how it should be in here's a pic from my blog.

I know =( me too! I kinda threw together some quick renders for the assignment CD, so I'll be updating that later with some high-res renders once I figure out how to change the ratio in Maya >>;

Not that I've worked in maya, but in 3DSmax I usually just zoom in on whatever I want a closer look on and do that quick render. Or I take a screen shot, if it's rendered in the program. I wish I knew more... but this and working in clay the other day makes me really want to work in 3D again. I enjoy modeling myself :3 (must learn how to use Blender!)

x3 lol, most definitely. I still want to maybe do a model or 2 over the summer to practice, and then there's school next semester where I'll be working with Maya rigging and UDK =D Can't wait!
