Self Portrait: Earth Dream

Finished it! I hope the color is ok, I did do this on more gray paper, but the contrast is still a bit funky. And the photo was again an issue with poor lighting... I just need to find a photo person to photograph my work from now on xD; I suck..

So this is my self portrait, _{and suddenly I'm self conscience >A>;...} . I have a lot of meaning and symbolism put into it. The concept was earth and air, or physical and ethereal. Dreams and memories are very important to me so the top part of the drawing has magic circles and rings referencing astrolabes and armillary spheres, which are used to map the stars and earth movements. I always found them to be whimsical and cool is design and meaning. The flowing hair reached out beyond it's boundaries of the physical. The bottom of the picture represents my bond to the phsyical, using tree roots and symbols from my childhood, like the moths and snail shells. It is a comfort to me, but sometimes I feel constricted and grounded to the past, so the roots cover my body. It's kind of a comment on "head in the clouds, but feet on the ground" but with more personal meaning. >>;



Well... that was long winded, but thank you if you read it x3 I put alot of work into this piece and I'm pretty happy with it (just wish the photo was nicer >_<)... I anticipated the crappy photo, so I did get close ups that I may post in awhile.

<sub>Well... that project I should have been doing yesterday instead of making that journal didn't get finished >>; but I plan on finishing it. I'm really liking how it's coming out, and actually I've done more on it then what's in this picture, so the upper part of her (er... my) torso, with the fabric, and some more background with the roots, and by my face some hair is more completed. I will try to grab another photo...

The reason I'm posting this hastily photoed WIP is because, though it isn't finished, my teacher still really liked it and put it up on display >\\\<; ahhh... I told him it wasn't done and I wanted to finish it, but he said for now he wanted it up, so i don't really know when I'll be getting it back... which is driving me insane xD; I'm going to have to avoid the hallway it's displayed in because I'm just going to keep thinking about how it's not finished xD;... ahhhh....</sub>
